Q & A
Here we have collected the most asked questions and under the questions section you can find some instruction videos also.
Keys
Keep the keys always in the keybox, so you just have to remember the code and you have always the key available. If you lock yourself out, please contact us. The cost of opening the door is 100 €.
Garbage
Help us to recycle! You can sort normal garbage, empty bottles, metal and glass. Marked trash cans can be found from the back of the woodshed.
Fireplace
1. First of all, remember every time to open the damber (over the fireplace, on the right side)! If it is not open, smoke will come inside and you're in danger because of the carbonmonoxide.
2. Open the airway (move to right) and light up the fire
3. When wood is burning properly, close the airway (move to left) so it won't burn with too high flames and light up the chimney.
4. When there is only embers left, you can open the airway again.
5. When there is no fire or embers anymore, close the damper to keep warmth inside.
Sauna
1. Open the damber (over the fireplace, on the left side). If it is not open, smoke will come inside and you're in danger because of the carbonmonoxide.
2. Light up the fire and keep it on approximately for one hour.
3. When the temperature is appropriate, sauna is ready! Usually good temperature is 60-80 Celsius. You can throw one scoop of water on the stones of the stove, to get humidity in the air.
4. When you are ready and there is not embers or fire anymore in the stove, close the damper to keep the warmth inside.
Smoking
Smoking is strictly forbidden in all indoor areas. The smoking fee begins from 500 € and depends on the cleaning/repairing costs. You can find a marked smoking area from the outside, on the left side of the warehouse.
Hot water
The cottage has a limited amount of hot water, so please use it carefully. If warm water runs out, it takes about five hours when the heater heats it more.
After the shower, please dry up the floor and turn on the hood (so that the airway is closed to kitchen) from the kitchen for 30 minutes, so it will dry to bathroom.
Waste water
The wastewater system has a limited capacity of 900 liters per day. The water removal occurs at 16:00 and at 04:00, so between 04:00 and 16:00 you can use 450 liters of water and another 450 liters during 16:00 and 04:00.
If Labko Loka Alarm alerts, the use of water must stop immediately. If this happens, press the < button on the Labko unit (located above toilet), for extra removal pumping. Wait for 20 minutes, and when the alarm has green "OK" -light, you can continue using water.
If water use continues despite the tanks filling, the wastewater purification system may be damaged.
Guests are responsible for using water under the guidelines. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have problems with the wastewater system.
Groceries & alcohol
You can find three grocery stores in the center of Ivalo: S-Market, K-Supermarket and K-Market.
K-Supermarket has a counter of fresh beef and fish from Mon-Fri.
All the grocery stores are offering mild alcoholic beverages, but please note, that in Finland it is allowed to sell alcohol just from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Alko, located in the same building as S-Market, are offering a good selection of wines and spirits. Please check their opening hours from Internet.
Outside fire
You can light fire outside only in the outside fire area. During wintertime it is safe, but during spring/summer/autumn check the forest fire warnings before. It is strictly prohibited to light fire outside during warnings.
Wood
You can find wood for the fireplace, sauna and outdoor fireplace from the terrace. If wood runs out, you can buy more from the grocery store.
Everyman's rights
Finnish Everyman's rights are a legal concept under which everyone is entitled to access the outdoors, regardless of ownership. Everyman's rights are an integral part of Finnish culture and enshrined in law. Everyman's rights apply to all nationalities and are not limited to Finnish citizens.

During cold winter nights
Make sure that doors are properly closed, and the fireplace and sauna dumpers are closed. For saving warmth inside and keeping cold outside, you can roll the curtains down.
